From PSW field notes: Tropical moist forest (closed canopy riparian forest), with Piliostigma, Trichilia, Vachellia sieberiana, and palms (Hyphaene, Borassus), on the north side of the Rio Pungué, east of Chitengo camp, Gorongosa National Park. Collections made between -19.00511 34.37774 (±3m) and -19.00010 34.37510 (±3m), yielding mean coordinates of -19.00260 34.37642, with extent ±315 m.
Dark brown, with anterior third of gaster lighter. Posterior face of mesonotum lacking standing hairs. Propodeal spines moderately long and slightly upturned. Possibly corresponding to one of "subspecies" of Crematogaster castanea.
