Specimen: CASENT0101783 Harpegnathos saltator

Classification:

Persistent Identifier:

https://www.antweb.org/specimen/CASENT0101783

Notes:

Clint Penick notes with regards to species identification: I have come across this ant in the same area where H. saltator is found, but they are clearly distinct in having a dark colored head. I was always under the impression that this was a separate Harpegnathos species, and while rearing large numbers of H. saltator colonies in the lab, I have never come across a worker with this coloration. In the field, I have found these dark-headed Harpegnathos foraging in grassy areas, while H. saltator primarily forages in forested areas or along forest edges.
