Taxonomic history
Crematogaster (Oxygyne) tumidula EmeryHNS
Crematogaster tumidula EmeryHNS 1900: 689. Syntypes, 2 workers from INDONESIA: Pangherang-Pisang, Sumatra (E. Modigliani) (MCSN) [examined]. Combination in C. (Physocrema)HNS by Emery, 1922: 140; Donisthorpe, 1941: 226.
Remarks. Examination of syntype workers in MCSN reveals that tumidulaHNS does not belong to the subgenus PhysocremaHNS. Characteristic features include: frontal carinae not developed; anterior clypeal margin not concave; metapleural gland orifice slit-shaped; petiole broader anteriorly. These features are characteristic of the subgenus OxygyneHNS and we consider C. tumidulaHNS to be referred to that subgenus.
Collect Date Range: collected on 1890-10-01
Type specimens: syntype of Crematogaster tumidula: casent0904533
