Primary type locality: Costa Rica: Heredia, 9 km. n Volcán Barba, 10°13’N, 84°06’W, 1750 m., 4.vii.1986, no. 1314-s, wet forest litter (J. Longino). Primary type depository: INBC. Secondary type information: Secondary type material: holotype worker, 22 paratype workers. Secondary type localities: 1 paratype worker with same data as holotype but 4-14.vii.1986, 5 paratype workers Mexico: Chiapas, 4 km. N Unión Juarez, Volcán Tacana, lower slopes, 1950 m., 18.ix.1992, no. 92-109 (R.S. Anderson), 6 paratype workers as last but 1800 m., no. 92-108, 1 paratype worker Costa Rica: Putarenas, Monteverde, 1500 m., 7.iv.1987, no. 1572-s (J. Distribution:

  Geographic regions: Not found on any curated Geolocale/Taxon lists.

Distribution Notes:

Costa Rica (type locality), Mexico (Fernandez and MacKay 2003, Fernandez 2003). Costa Rica: Monteverde cloudforest at 1600m; Volcan Barva cloud forest. In Monteverde, seems to have a parapatric distribution with laevigatus. This species inhabits the wet ridgecrest cloudforest; laevigatus inhabits the flanking moist forest on the Pacific side, and occurs in Penas Blancas at Eladio's.

Inhabits forest floor litter. Known only from Winkler samples.
