Biology:

Inhabits wet forest leaf litter.

Identification:

Minor worker: head length 0.83mm, head width 0.58mm, scape length 1.33mm, Webers length 1.19mm (n=1). Head with strong, flaring occipital carina; mesonotal suture impressed, metanotal groove well-impressed; propodeal spines absent, junction of propodeal dorsum and declivity marked by transverse carina; face and pronotum smooth and shiny; mesopleuron and propodeum areolate; gastral dorsum smooth and shiny; dorsal pilosity moderately abundant, long, flexuous; color red brown, mesosoma lighter than head and gaster.

cf. araneoides, lattkei, tijucana. Pheidole tijucana is less elongate through entire body, head in profile a bit shorter with dorsal profile more convex, mesosoma less stretched out, petiole less stretched out; propodeal teeth more developed, as tiny teeth, instead of nearly absent; color more uniform red brown. Otherwise quite similar. Pheidole araneoides stretched out like Costa Rica material, but occipital carina more flared, katepisternum and side of propodeum with weaker sculpture. Pheidole lattkei also similar but concolorous yellow, with shorter more appressed pilosity on hind tibia.
