Biology:

Typically associated with conifers, particularly pines (Pinus spp.).

Identification:

In the North American fauna, this uniformly brownish species is formally recognized by the sparse (as opposed to abundant) pilosity (hairiness); the hairs on the gaster are few or absent, and those on the mesosoma are mostly confined to the pronotum. Overall they have a very shiny appearance compared to the velvety look of other Nearctic species.
