Taxonomic History (provided by Barry Bolton, 2023)

Polyrhachis serratus Smith, 1859a PDF: 140 (w.) INDONESIA (Aru Is). Indomalaya. Primary type information: Primary type material: holotype worker. Primary type locality: Indonesia: Aru (A.R. Wallace). Primary type depository: BMNH. Type notes: A specimen in OXUM, labeled “Aru 50” and with a Donisthorpe type label, is not a type, and not a specimen of Echinopla serrata. It entirely fails to match the original description, but compares well with a syntype of Echinopla australis Forel, 1901 that is in BMNH. AntCat AntWiki HOL
