Combination in Aphaenogaster (Attomyrma): Emery, 1921c: 57.
Subspecies of Aphaenogaster fulva: Buren, 1944a PDF: 284; of Aphaenogaster rudis: Creighton, 1950a PDF: 148 (incorrect as Aphaenogaster picea made available earlier than Aphaenogaster rudis and hence Aphaenogaster picea is senior name).
Raised to species: Bolton, 1995b: 72; Umphrey, 1996 PDF: 558 (in key).
