Costa Rica (type locality).
The type specimens of this species are from Apaic‡n, Volcan Irazœ. Borgmeier (1955) examined a second collection by Schmidt from San JosŽ.
I know this species from one collection. I found a column of workers beneath a stone at the edge of a gravel road. The habitat was an open pasture area that had been recently burned. The locality was the San Luis Valley, on the Pacific slope just below Monteverde, at 1050m elevation. The collection was made in the middle of a hot day. The smallest workers of this species were remarkably tiny, about the size of small Diplorhoptrum Solenopsis.
Found most commonly in these habitats: 1 times found in open pasture, 3 times found in mature wet forest, 1 times found in tropical moist forest
Collected most commonly using these methods or in the following microhabitats: 1 times search, 3 times miniWinkler, 1 times MaxiWinkler
Elevations: collected from 50 - 1050 meters, 681 meters average
