Myrmecocystus melliger subsp. semirufus var. romainei Cole 1936B:120 [unavail.]. Bolton (1995) gives the author of romainei as Snelling in Hunt & Snelling (1975), but both Hunt and Snelling are authors of the checklist in which the name is made available. The expression "Snelling in prep." which follows the species name merely documents the presence of this species in Arizona (see introduction to paper).
